Kendall's Broken Elbow

The night before Thanksgiving, Kendall fell off our bed being a little monkey with her brother and sister. Neither Russ nor I nor the other two kids have broken any bone. Leave it the youngest to be the first! It turned into a bigger ordeal due to the timing of the accident falling on a Holiday weekend and she somehow ended up with an infection in the same area of the break which is still being observed. We were very thankful the infection was controlled so she didn't have to be admitted to the hospital as we were warned by the doctor at Valley Children's. She is quite the trooper and has undergone to date, 3 casts, MANY X-rays and lots of blood work. She has become quite good at doing things with her left arm. Hopefully our Jan appointment brings good news and this is over with for her!

Arm is still quite swollen when we were at appt to get it cast but a lot less than a week before. This is when we learned how serious the infection could be if it wasn't contained quickly. The thought of her being hospitalized for 6 days with an IV of antibiotics was very scary.

Cast #1 - Of course it was pink! She's sad because we had just come from having blood drawn for testing.

Cast #2 - One week later and this time Kendall chose purple. Ethan thought her pink cast made a perfect laser gun. He also tried hard to get her to choose glow in the dark cast instead.

Cast #3 - Red since it was just before Christmas. Next appt for more X-rays and blood work will be beginning of January.

The nurse gave Kendall the extra bandage roll so when she got home she played doctor and proceeded to wrap arms and legs of her dolls and stuffed animals so they were just like her. She reminds us to be very careful since they have a broken bone.
